Willie Reid Blaylock Cooper

May 7, 1920-May 23, 2010

Willie R. Blaylock Cooper passed away peacefully on May 23 at home with her family, after a long, rich life. She celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends three weeks earlier.

Willie was born May 7, 1920, in Brotherton, Tenn., to James and Rosa Blaylock. She met her lifelong sweetheart, Hosea “Woody” Cooper, in Crossville, Tenn., in 1936, and they were married April 15, 1937. A year later they moved to Dayton, Ohio, where they raised four children—Jim, Woody Jr., Brenda and Bob. Willie was a devoted wife and mother whose greatest joy was her family. During her final months, Willie’s face brightened when she held her only great-great-grandchild.

Willie was preceded in death by her husband of over 71 years, Hosea “Woody” Cooper Sr. (2008) and their sons Woody Jr. (1995) and Bob (2009). She is survived by son James (Ann) of Colorado and daughter Brenda (Ted Pease) of Utah. Willie leaves 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Willie also leaves behind her sister Gertrude Folda (Stan), many loving friends and extended family members, and very dear friends Kenny and Lucille Tye of Trenton and Linda Connolly of Centerville. A special thanks to grandchildren Tammy Sullivan, Bryan Mullins and Denise Landrigan, who provided much love and dedicated care during both Willie’s and Woody’s final years. Willie’s family also wants to thank everyone at Acclaim Hospice for the excellent care they provided Willie during the past few months.

Visitation will be held May 26, 11:00, followed by services at noon, at First Baptist Church of Kettering, 3939 Swigart Road. Pastor Kenneth Tye, Horse Shoe Bend Baptist Church, Hamilton, OH, and Willie’s nephew Dr. James Blaylock, pastor of Corinth Baptist Church, London, KY, will officiate. Burial Bellbrook Cemetery, Upper Bellbrook Road will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Acclaim Hospice, Centerville, OH.
